  • Baptism*: John Bean was baptized on 16 February 1673/74 at St Andrew, Jevington, Sussex, England.1
  • He was the son of Thomas Bean and Ann (?)
  • Anecdote*: I am confident that I have the correct parents for John Bean because of the following:
    1. Both John Bean and Mary Stretton's parents were carpenters, and both sides were quite well off going by the wills. This is how John gets to be a yeoman, "of Park Farm".
    2. Mary's brother Thomas died in 1724 and the probate inventory was done by William Bean and Thomas Sinnock, and both would have been family. Thomas Stretton's wife was Katherine Sinnock, so Thomas was likely her brother, and William Bean would likely be a brother of Mary Stretton's husband, John Bean. This fits perfectly with the Bean parentage shown, as William would have been John's younger brother.
    3. The other candidate often shown for John Bean is the one baptised 1693 at Willingdon son of John Bean and Mary, however there is a burial for hin in 1706, "son of John" so he must be discounted.
  • (Witness) Will: John Bean is mentioned in the will of Thomas Bean dated 19 April 1703 at Jevington, Sussex, EnglandB.2,3
  • Occupation*: John Bean was a yeoman in 1716.
  • Marriage License: John Bean and Mary Stretton obtained a marriage licence on 21 September 1716 at Archdeaconry of Lewes, Sussex, England, John of Wilmington, yeoman; Mary of the same parish.4
  • Marriage*: John Bean married Mary Stretton, daughter of William Stretton and Elizabeth Iten, on 25 September 1716 at Willingdon, Sussex, EnglandB.4
  • (Witness) Will: John Bean is mentioned in the will of Thomas Bean dated 29 December 1717 at Jevington, Sussex, EnglandB.5,6
  • (Witness) Will: John Bean is mentioned in the will of William Stretton dated 5 November 1719 at Willingdon, Sussex, England.
  • Residence*: In 1728 John Bean and Mary Stretton lived at Willingdon Park Farm, Willingdon, Sussex, England.
  • Will*: John Bean left a will made on 1 August 1728 at Willingdon, Sussex, EnglandB.7,8
